40歲Bobby Abreu宣布，今年球季後退休，結束17年大聯盟球員生涯。他希望能找到教練工作，指導年輕球員打擊。

大都會vs.太空人賽前記者會，總教練Terry Collins發布Abreu即將退休的消息。「好希望你可以繼續打下去。」Collins哽咽地向Abreu說。

這兩人之間情誼深厚。18年前，當Abreu從太空人隊出道、剛上大聯盟時，Collins正是他的總教練。之後Abreu轉戰費城人、洋基、天使、道奇等隊，今年兩人在大都會隊重逢。

去年Abreu並沒有在大聯盟出賽，今年回來，出賽76場，130打數擊出32支安打，包括1支全壘打，打擊率0.246。

「我中斷一年沒打球，還能回來，並有著這樣的表現，足以為榮。」Abreu說。

「跟年輕人一起打球，好像我也變年輕了，但我明白，這終究是屬於年輕世代的舞台，我只想說聲再會，Adios(西班牙文再見)。」

Abreu在大聯盟打了17年，出賽2423場，擊出2469支安打，是委內瑞拉選手裡面的第三名。生涯打擊率0.291、上壘率0.395，擊出288轟。

「打完最後一戰之後，Abreu絕對可以抬頭挺胸、告別球場。」總教練Collins說。
