Wayne Rooney終於突破個人在世界盃的進球荒，但挽救不了英格蘭面臨淘汰的危機，烏拉圭在Luis Suárez獨進兩球演出下，以2：1擒下三獅軍團，拿下小組賽第一勝。

2014年世界盃D組第三場賽事，於台北時間20日凌晨3點在聖保羅體育場開踢，烏拉圭成為D組第3支拿下3分積分的球隊。

Rooney在第75分鐘進球，讓先丟球的英格蘭追到1：1，也中止個人在世界盃長達759分鐘進球荒，踢進世界盃第一球。

不過在第39分鐘進球的Suárez，第84分鐘禁區右路起腳，烏拉圭再度取得超前，英格蘭反撲無力，Steven Gerrard一度遠射未果，時間逐漸流逝。

這是英格蘭自1950年巴西世界盃後，再度於小組賽吞下頭兩場敗戰，相隔64年後，再度於巴西歷史重演。
