被喻為「東方諾貝爾獎」的唐獎，今頒發首屆最後一個獎項「法治獎」，由前南非憲法法院大法官奧比‧薩克斯（Albie Sachs）獲得，中研院院士李遠哲宣布獲獎理由，指奧比‧薩克斯長期主張所有人的尊嚴應予以尊重，不同社群的能力與價值，都應予以承認，才能充分體現法治的重要價值。

李遠哲表示，奧比‧薩克斯一生致力於為南非帶來法治，無論作為政治運動工作者、律師、學者乃至於南非新憲法的起草者，奧比‧薩克斯都努力透過法治的實踐，癒合過去社會撕裂帶來的傷痛，試圖建立起一個尊重多元、擁抱民主價值、社會正義與基本人權的社會。
