美聯社報導，一項研究顯示，1980年來出生率持續下降的埃及，已連續出生率急劇上升6年。

研究結果在阿拉伯世界人口最多的埃及，引發嚴重的經濟關切，該國在2011年阿拉伯之春革命浪潮後，經濟陷於停滯。

研究由埃及衛生與人口部以及美國的機構共同完成，指出2008年來，埃及婦女平均生育子女數從3人升至3.5人。
