據巴西國家太空署（INPE）大氣電力小組指出，2014年巴西有98人遭閃電擊斃，較2013年少1人。

調查數據指出，聖保羅遭電殛人數最多，達17人；其次是馬蘭豪（Maranhao）16人死亡；彼奧（Piaui）7人死亡；亞馬遜和巴拉（Para）各6人死亡。

大氣電力小組指出，聖保羅遭電殛人數居冠，主因為2014年下半年發生的兩起意外：11月7日，聖保羅市3名街頭遊民同時被一道閃電擊中死亡；12月29日，南海岸城市大海灘（Praia Grande）4名遊客在海邊戲水遭電殛。

2000至2009年，巴西每年因電殛致死人數都超過百人；2010至2015年，只有1年死亡人數過百。聖保羅南海岸的慘劇，是巴西史上記錄遭閃電直接致死的第2大宗意外。

調查中還指出，主要電殛情況和前幾年一樣：27%的死者遭閃電擊中時正在從事農牧工作；20%在家裡；所有死者中，56%住在農村地區。
